Day 1

Meet your fellow adventurers and tour leader at 6:00 pm at the joining hotel in Antigua, Guatemala.
Be sure to have your insurance documents and passports available for presentation to your tour leader. After your tour briefing, you may want to go out together for dinner at one of the many renowned restaurants nearby.

Day 2

Hike Volcano Acatenango 3976M. This hike is difficult.
Departing around 5am after a good breakfast, we’ll drive about an hour to begin our hike. You have been training for this and you know the rewards will be huge once we go through our three phases of the climb! Along the way we’ll pass through different climates and landscapes. Your legs will ache and your chest will burn but with views to Volcanos Atitlan, Toliman, San Pedro, Santa Maria, Santo Tomas, Tajamulco and our smoking friend, Volcano Fuego, at the summit, you won’t regret it! Approximately 12 hours. Returning to Antigua at approximately 5pm.

Day 3

Today is a rest day and you deserve it! Take in a day of exploring this unique cobblestoned city with a tour or just spend your time at leisure. We can also arrange cooking classes, chocolate making classes, massages and more!

Day 4

An early departure sees us leave Antigua for Guatemala’s 2nd largest city, ‘Quetzaltenango (Xela)’.
We will check into our hotel and have the rest of the day at leisure before meeting up with the rest of our trekking buddies at Quetzaltrekkers for a briefing of our hike from Quetzaltenango to Lake Atitlan. Our highest point on the trek will be 3050M and it’s 42kms of beauty spread out over 3 days!

Day 5

Get excited, this is the first day of our exciting hike to Lake Atitlan! How does a day like this sound?:
6:30am, we meet at the Quetzaltrekkers office for breakfast, then depart for the short bus ride to Xecam. We’ll start walking about 9:30, climbing gradually out of the Xela Valley. Approaching the cloud forest, we begin our descent around noon, stopping about 1:00 pm for lunch. More trekking this afternoon has us arriving at Santa Catarina around 4:30, followed by Temesal (a Mayan sauna experience!) About 6:30 we meet for drinks and dinner.

Day 6

Starting with a 7:00 am breakfast, we’ll walk out of Santa Catalina about 8 am. This morning will see us climb Record Hill and come to Ice Cream village (let your imagination run.) Lunch along the way will be at about 1 pm, followed by more trekking. About 3 pm, we begin crossing streams, and about 4:00 encounter the “cornfield of death (think: children of the corn), and arrive at our destination for the day, Xiprian at about 5:00 pm. An evening campfire after dinner at Don Pedro’s completes the day.

Day 7

A very early rise this morning sees us walking to the lookout over Lake Atitlan for a breakfast view over the lake at sunrise. A truly magical experience. After breakfast, we start our descent, arriving mid-morning in San Juan La Laguna for stop at La Voz Coffee Cooperative for a fresh cup! A short time later we arrive in San Pedro, eat lunch at El Fondeadero, a restaurant on the water. We hang out and enjoy Lake Atitlan until 2:00 pm when our bag drop arrives and we are transported to our hotel in Panajachel. Tonight we deserve an unforgettable dinner, so let’s meet at 7pm!

Day 8

Today we are going to take it down a notch and explore Lake Atitlan!
‘Lake Como it seems to me, touches on the limit of permissibly picturesque, but Atitlán is Como with additional embellishments of several immense volcanoes. It really is too much of a good thing’.
A leisurely departure of around 9:00 am, our boat will be waiting! We will head first to the village of Santa Catarina (a different one), where we will enjoy some of the gorgeous artwork on offer. After that, we will go straight across the middle of the lake to Santiago, where we will wander through the town checking out the local markets and locals going about their everyday lives. From Santiago we will head to San Juan, which is famous for it’s paintings and some unforgettable coffee! We’ll finish up back in Panajachel for some last minute shopping around 2pm.

Day 9

We’re heading to Santa Ana, El Salvador today. The journey is approximately 7 hours. Think of it as a rest day, because tomorrow we are going to conquer El Salvador’s highest volcano! Enjoy the scenery along the way.

Day 10

Hike Santa Ana Volcano 2381M, a medium challenge.
Today we’ll head out early to beat the heat and get on up Volcano Santa Ana, the highest volcano El Salvador has to offer! We leave around 7:00 am, returning around 5:00 pm. You deserve the cold beers that are waiting and the pupusas that will fill your belly!

Day 11

Today we are heading all the way to Potosi, Nicaragua, which will be the base for tomorrow’s hike of Volcano Cosiguina. We will be using our own private bus and today’s trip will include a fabulous water border crossing!

Day 12

Hike up Volcan Cosigüina 859 metres (medium)
Once again, our day starts early, to avoid the intense heat. At 5:00 am we are at the breakfast table; by 5:40 we start the hike. By 2:00 pm we return to Potosi where we’ll be treated to a relaxing dip in the hot springs. Then, by 6:00 pm we’ll be back in Leon for a good shower, packing and dinner. But you can’t come to Nicaragua and not taste the rum. That’s why we’ve included the “rum tasting challenge” for this evening.

Day 13

Today is a rest day. Take in a city tour and understand more about this fabulous city and the rich history and culture of Nicaragua. We can arrange massages for today, too, if you are feeling weary because one more great day of hiking still awaits!

Day 14

Volcano Boarding @ Cerro Negro 728M (easy)
An 8:00 am departures and a 30-minute drive takes us out of Leon to the base of our hike, to get ready for a 40- to 60-minute hike up to the crater of Central Americas youngest (but active) volcano! It’s an easy hike but a little unsteady. Once we get to the top, well have time to take in some beautiful views, suit up and nail this puppy! Speeds of up to 80km/h can be reached as we board down – not even joking! If you don’t want to board you also have the option to hike back down. Return by 12 noon for lunch. Then we’ll head for our second tour of the day, the Twilight Tour @ Telica, 1016M (easy). A 1.5-hour drive out of Leon in a 4WD (we need it) will take us a little past the base of Telica! From there it’s an unsteady hour hike up to the crater. After a brief exploration we’ll head over and perch ourselves for a stunning sunset! We return to Leon around 9:00 pm for a well-deserved final dinner!
